Week Two: Challenge Accepted
Carol began the week by roughing it in campgrounds without cell service or toilets. She and her new friends had fun exploring the scenery, joining in sing-alongs, and sharing meals together.
Some days were taxing, with strenuous uphill rides, strong winds, rain, and cold mornings. Although Carol did not expect to need her winter coat in Florida, she was grateful that she brought it with her from Chicago. She’s also been using Arnicare every night, and it’s helped with her pain from challenging rides.
“It would make me happy if through this I can inspire just one person”
“It would make me happy if through this I can inspire just one person to try a healthier and fit lifestyle,” says Carol, who remains determined.
Sweet, fun moments have outshined her short-lived discomfort. “Many people imagine Florida as flat, but there are many hills, some of which have been grueling but there have been exhilarating moments,” says Carol. “On the way to Marianna from Monticello, we rode down a very large hill at 27 miles per hour. My friend and I couldn’t stop ourselves from yelling ‘Weeee’!”
